The owners, the Schacher brothers, have dedicated a little temple to our Estate. Where wine is arranged in chronological order. It is a major success.
Passion and ability have enabled Walter and Riccardo Schacher to obtain for the wine cellar of their hotel and restaurant in Moena, the “Foresta”, two records in Trentino enology: it is the only provincial wine cellar that can offer all the official regional producers of wine, spumante, grappa, sweet wine and, every labels of each of these producers. The second record, which is a true gem, is that it is the only wine cellar (if we are mistaken please fell free to correct us) to own every year, from 1982 onwards, of our wine house, San Leonardo, to which we have dedicated another little gem, a small “temple”. “It was very difficult - promises Walter Schacher – to acquire bottles from every year”. “But once we managed it – he continues proudly – we thought we should our bottles an appropriate surrounding. This is why the architect Ernesto Sieff, from Fiemma, designed a niche of circa 30 sqm, a little temple where we only exhibit San Leonardo and its little brothers (Villa Gresti and Merlot)”.
At the side of an area of white gravel with a statue of San Leonardo in the background, the walls are lit up by white stars and host the bottles in an austere and classic atmosphere that is rendered suggestive by a tape recording of the autobiographical description of San Leonardo.
But before the “Sancta Sanctorum”, a video on the entrance door, commented by the very Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, shows visitors of the Estate, the life of our wine house in the various seasons. From here one can enter this niche of great oenology with adequate information to more fully appreciate the chronologically arranged wines in the beehive structure which is a perfect reproduction of the one that exists here in Borghetto, “It seemed right but also elegant - comment Walter and Riccardo – to reserve a symbolic privilege to the wine that the most reliable national and international league tables classify as the finest of Trentino and amongst the most prestigious Italian wines”.
And aside from the professional satisfaction of the Estate in ascertaining that this restaurant, which is amongst the most celebrated of the entire Val di Fiemme and Fassa – a valley which is considered the leading gastronomic zone in the whole of Trentino – has reserved such a privilege for our products. In addition, it was said, it was a good omen for all local oenology that there was someone who promoted such an interesting initiative.
It should be highlighted also that the two records of the Schacher brothers are situated in a tourist setting, the Dolomites, which are amongst the most beautiful mountains of the world, where (Cavalese, Predazzo, Moena, Canazei and their splendid panoramas come to mind) it is not infrequent to have guests that are part of the national and European jet set. Starting from here - if one considers that the wines exhibited are also on sale – this represents one of the most immediate and interesting windows on Trentino oenology. To give to the spectator, visitor and potential purchaser a geographically correct testimony, the Schacher brothers have organised their exhibition of wines by separating them in terms of homogeneous production zones and assembling the relative bottles in each area. At the entrance to each area a form shows the organo-electric qualities of the wines. As an added proof of their professionalism, they have also made this testimony “exportable” through a DVD of the wine cellar in general and the “Sancta Sanctorum” in particular. They commissioned it from Enrico Costanzo, a documentarist and professional director, who is a contributor of important national TV presenters (from Piero Angela to Licia Colò). His work is often projected on the national networks of Rai and Mediaset. From a perspective shot to an extreme close-up, between red wine rotating in a glass and the shot of one of the many prestigious labels, the brief film shows Walter Schacher explaining the qualities of certain wines to an elegant lady.
The numbers? Along the walls of these 200 sqm 6,000 bottles of 130 producers for a total of 490 labels “sleep”. The temperature is kept constant at 18 degrees. Even the humidity is kept constant. The “beehives” are in fir wood and the small “areas”, are welcoming and furnished with tables of the Ladin culture for a toast. The space would not have been complete without a small library on wines, the description of the areas, the history and curiosities. For example, although there are certain small defection that the Schacher brothers hope to remedy shortly, there is an important queen room in the wine cellar where large Huitieme bottles are on show.
